The Parking Reform Network webinar about those reforms was such a great "masterclass" on reforming costly parking mandates that we just had to turn it into an episode of Reinventing Parking.
This episode also has a video version! Scroll down further to watch.
Listen with the player below. Or subscribe to the audio podcast. This is the official podcast of the Parking Reform Network.
First up, I have a quick chat with Tony Jordan, President of the Parking Reform Network, to catch up on PRN news and achievements.
Then we switch to a lightly edited version of the PRN webinar.
The first speaker is Evan Manvel, who was one of the architects of the reforms and is Climate Mitigation Planner for the State of Oregon.
The second panelist is Catie Gould, who has been on the
podcast twice before already! She is a researcher at the excellent Sightline Institute which is an sustainability-focused think tank in and on the Cascadia
region of North America. Catie's recent article for the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy is an excellent update on the trend towards abolition of costly parking mandates.
In various places you will also hear from the Moderator, Rachel Weinberger who is a parking expert, PRN advisory group member and is the Peter W. Herman Chair for Transportation with the Regional Planning Association in the New York City metropolitan region.
The event was sponsored by Studio Davis which is a leading firm focused on parking policy, systems, and management.
MORE DETAIL ON OREGON'S REFORMS
More information on Oregon's Climate-Friendly and Equitable Communities page has much more information about the parking reforms and their policy context.
A longer presentation with much more detail on the reforms is available here (PDF).
